We buy houses in Teays Valley, or connect you with a local buyer who will
Teays Valley is an unincorporated community along I-64 and WV-34, roughly halfway between Charleston and Huntington, named for an early hunter and trapper, Thomas Teays. Since the 1980s the stretch of WV-34 between Scott Depot and Hurricane has filled in with shopping centers, offices and subdivisions, turning farmland into one of the Charleston area's biggest suburbs.
Most homes here are 1980s and newer: two-story colonials, split-levels, ranches and townhomes, often in subdivisions with covenants or a homeowners association. Original roofs, HVAC systems, decks and water heaters from those decades are reaching the end of their lives, and some houses sit on graded lots where drainage and settling matter. Older farmhouses still turn up on the back roads.
If your house is in good shape, listing it with a local agent will often get you more, and we'll say so. If it needs work, has tenants, or came to you through an estate, UglyDuck may buy it ourselves or connect you with a trusted buyer from our network who works in Putnam County.

Selling in Teays Valley: local things to know
Subdivisions and HOAs
If your home is in a subdivision with covenants or an HOA, the buyer will need the association's documents, and any unpaid dues or open violations will come up at closing. Have the HOA's contact information handy. It doesn't stop a sale, but it helps everyone plan.
Teays Valley, Scott Depot or Hurricane?

Students are split between the Hurricane and Winfield school attendance areas. Your deed will show the right legal description, and all of it is recorded in Putnam County.
Common reasons Teays Valley owners reach out
A 1990s house with worn-out systems
A roof, furnace and AC that all need replacing at once can be a lot. You can sell without doing them.
A house you've been renting out
If you moved and kept the house as a rental, tell us about the tenants and the lease.
A divorce or a change in plans
When a house needs to be sold so everyone can move on, a plain process and a written offer can help.
How selling your Teays Valley house works
- 1
Tell us about the house
Share the address, the condition and what's going on. It takes about a minute and costs nothing.
- 2
We take an honest look
We review the house and the area. We may make an offer ourselves, connect you with a trusted local buyer, or tell you listing is likely the better route.
- 3
You decide
If there's an offer, it comes in writing with the price and closing terms. Take your time, compare it with listing, and say no if it isn't right.
Selling your house in Teays Valley: questions
Do you buy houses in Teays Valley and Hurricane?
We look at houses in Teays Valley, Scott Depot, Hurricane and nearby Putnam County. We don't buy every house. Some we may buy ourselves and some we connect with a buyer in our network.
My house is in an HOA. Can I sell it as-is?
Yes. The HOA's documents and any dues or violations still need to be disclosed and settled at closing, but the condition of the house can be as-is.
Is listing the better option in Teays Valley?
For a well-kept house in a popular subdivision, listing with an agent often nets more. A direct sale is mainly worth comparing when the house needs significant work or the timing is hard.
